About
Aymer Vinoy Laughner, a businessman from Pennsylvania, hired Henry L. Taylor to create a luxurious hotel with a view of Tampa Bay in 1923. After two years, the $3.5 million With 362 opulent accommodations, the Vinoy Park Hotel was open for business. The Vinoy reopened as a hotel in 1945 and operated until 1974, when it was forced to close for more than 20 years due to neglect. A $93 million repair and expansion project added a guest tower and full recreational amenities, including an 18-hole golf course that Ron Garl had built, to the salmon-colored hotel.
