John Rutledge House Inn
About
The 1763-built John Rutledge House Inn® is a charming boutique inn and a National Historic Landmark. John Rutledge, a prominent South Carolina politician and a signer of the U.S. Constitution, once called it his home. Rutledge worked in the drafting room on the second level of the building and contributed to various drafts of the document. Even the creation of She Crab Soup is said to have taken place in the home during a party that President William Howard Taft attended in the 1920s. In 1989, this amazing historical site changed its name to the John Rutledge House Inn®. The Inn gives visitors the chance to relive the distinctive grandeur of a bygone age now. The hotel’s position on Broad Street makes it convenient for guests to explore the area around Charleston.
