Relax. Refresh. Recharge.

When Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his den after a long winter’s nap on February 2nd managing to avoid his shadow, spring was forecasted to come early and hope still sprang eternal. What Phil failed to predict that morning was the 49ers would blow a 10-point lead in the Super Bowl later that evening and every day soon thereafter in 2020 would become Groundhog Day.

But as we come upon an actual US Holiday this weekend, it’s time to break the cycle, pack up our kitchen table desks and find a way to enjoy a three-day weekend. While this Memorial Day weekend will certainly not look the same as what we have come to know, we hope you can find a way to carve out some time to relax and reset as we barrel towards summer.

While we’ll defer to your friends and family on what to watch next on NETFLIX (Unless you are the one holdout who hasn’t watched Tiger King then definitely watch Tiger King) our way of helping this weekend is to share with you a collection of some of the favorite things we have collected over the last month or so.

What would have been quick BEACH READS:

• The Day The Live Concert Returns by Dave Grohl (The Atlantic)
• A canceled wedding, a cancer diagnosis, and a surprise – at the 50 yard line at Gillette Stadium by Ben Volin (Boston Globe)
• Phyllis George, Trailblazing Sportscaster, Is Dead at 70 by Richard Sandomir (The New York Times)
• We’ve known how to make healthier buildings for decades. COVID-19 may be the push to make them a reality by Nicole Wetsman (The Verge)
• Coronavirus closed the border. They won’t let that keep them apart by Douglas Quan (The Toronto Star)

I won’t lie. I have a hard time recalling life before PODCASTS. Here are a handful our staff are currently enjoying.

Boom/Bust: The Rise and Fall of HQ Trivia: At its peak 2.3 million people were playing HQ Trivia. What happened?
The Popcast with Knox & Jamie: Educating you on the things that entertain, but do not matter!
Office Ladies with Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey: Co-stars and best friends Jenna and Angela are doing the ultimate THE OFFICE re-watch podcast.
• Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend: Conan is in search of a lasting relationship with his celebrity guests.
Making Sense Podcast with Sam Harris: Sam explores some of the most pressing and controversial questions of our time.
Wooden Overcoats: This award winning British podcast follows Rudyard Funn who runs a funeral home on the island of Piffling.

And in closing, this came from Seth Godin’s blog around Thanksgiving, but felt very applicable as we head into Memorial Day and consider where we are right now.

If every day were Thanksgiving
It’s my favorite holiday for a good reason: It doesn’t matter what country, what culture or what background you come from…
Gratitude works.
Gratitude scales.
Gratitude creates a positive cycle of more gratitude.
When in doubt, default to gratitude.

Enjoy your weekend!
