Portland Regency Hotel & Spa

About

This Neo-Gothic Romanesque structure, constructed in 1895 as an armory for the Maine National Guard, was decommissioned in the 1950s. It was afterwards put to use as a warehouse before being bought in 1984 and transformed as the Portland Regency Hotel & Spa, which swiftly rose to the top of the city’s famed Old Port Exchange. The outside of the building has been kept, and its architectural characteristics generate distinctive features in many of the spacious, traditionally furnished rooms. The top-floor guestrooms have additional outdoor decks, but the building’s exterior has not. The National Trust for Historic Preservation designated Portland as one of America’s Twelve Distinctive Places in 2003.
