Nature’s bounty is alive and well in Western Canada. Comprising the four provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan, and with major capital cities including Winnipeg and Edmonton, this region of the country is the home to many First Nations where there is a premium on natural beauty and preserved history. This unparalleled part of the world offers hiking excursions through cavernous mountains, opportunities to get up close with various species of wildlife, and a horizon of forested areas with lakes and rivers where outdoor activities are endless.
Some of our favorite venues in this region also take full advantage of their surroundings, giving meeting and event attendees a real change of scenery.
At Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, one of the standout options for conferences, meetings, and weddings is the Diamond Alumni Centre. Built on two levels, the Centre incorporates natural timbers, stone fireplaces, and abundant greenery to create a harmonious setting from which you can enjoy the panoramic view of Indian Arm and the North Shore Mountains.
Olds College in Alberta encompasses the region’s namesake as “The Prairies” with two significant areas for visiting groups. The Wetlands are spread out over 20 acres and feature a series of 19 ponds with a walkway that covers 1.3 kilometers. Some of the marquee venues here include a Gazebo atop Celebration Hill, the BMO Bank of Montreal Amphitheatre, and Heritage Barn. Also at Olds College there is the Land Sciences Atrium, a unique spot for receptions that’s adjacent to a tropical garden and a short walk to the campus’ Botanical Gardens.
