Scott Fitzgerald Theater is located has a history that goes from farm to grand estate to an active civic destination. In 1838, Judge Richard Johns Bowie erected the first home "Glen View" on the land and with the help of slaves began to farm approximately 350 acres. Judge Bowie is best know for his many political positions including Chief Judge of Maryland's Court of Appeals. In 1926, Dr. and Mrs. Lyon, both prominent figures in Washington DC, expanded Glenview to create the grand large mansion and formal gardens we continue to enjoy today. Purchased by the City of Rockville in 1957, the mansion and grounds became a civic destination to which the theatre was added in 1960 and a nature center in 2002.

Such a wealth of history is rare indeed. That it has been preserved and expanded, forming this rich and serene park/garden setting makes it all the more unique a venue. The Rockville Civic Center Park is well, situated a mere 15 miles from the White House. One mile from the Rockville Metro stop and a few minutes drive from Interstates 495 and 270. Those wanting a special setting and modern facilities will recognize that the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre and Social Hall is the perfect venue for your next event!
