About Roanoke College
Established in 1842, Roanoke College is an independent, co-educational, 4-year liberal arts college. HIstorically, the college is honored to be the second-oldest Lutheran-related College in America. The student population hovers around 2,000 representing a diverse population of 43 states and 33 countries. Roanoke College is consistently ranked in the top 10% of the Princeton Review’s Best Colleges and is currently ranked #4 in US News & World Reports’ Up-and-coming National Liberal Arts Colleges.
Roanoke College is located in Salem, Virginia in the Roanoke Valley between the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains. Roanoke College offers a small college town setting with the conveniences of a major city and the beauty and amenities of a mountain get away. Roanoke College is situated on over 80-acres and just 2 miles from Interstate 81 and 15 minutes from Roanoke Regional Airport. The campus has historical significance as the only Virginia College not to close its doors during the Civil War and has over 10% of its building listed on the Virginia and National historic registers.
Campus buildings range from historical charm to brand-new state-of-the art. The Administration Building, built in 1848 is listed on several historic registries. To be completed in the fall of 2016, The Cregger Center, a 155,000-square-foot athletic complex featuring classrooms, meeting spaces, a performance gym with 2,500-seat capacity with event seating for 3,500, 200-meter indoor track, athletic training room and fitness center. The Cregger Center is adjacent to the Colket Student Center and Kerr Stadium. The 60,000 square-foot Colket Student Center is the campus community gathering place and features a stately ballroom, multiple technology equipped meeting rooms, outdoor terraces and houses the 500-seat dining facility and catering operations. Other notable facilities at Roanoke College are the Antrim Chapel, Olin Theater, and Bast Gym. Classrooms are also available for event use in the summer months.
