The Castle Hill Resort and Spa

About

This beautiful home, tucked away in Vermont’s Green Mountains, was Alan Fletcher’s vision while he was governor of Vermont from 1912 to 1915. The front is adorned with stone from a nearby quarry, while the interior is warm and elegantly decorated with beautifully carved California redwood and ornate plasterwork. When Castle Hill was built, it was the first house in the state to have a complete electrical system. Nickel-plated faucets that could handle a hose in case of fire were installed on each floor. Several of Fletcher’s distinctive design elements, such as the grand staircase, the original wallpaper, the beautiful woodwork, and the Tiffany light fittings, have been preserved in the house.
