River Street Inn

About

With a unique sense of flair, River Street Inn offers the classic Savannah experience. Originally utilized for storing, sorting, and exporting cotton, this five-story inn on Savannah’s riverside now houses a hotel. Ballast stone was used to build the first two stories, supporting the weights from European ships that were unloaded to make way for cotton. To handle the growing amount of cotton produced by the cotton industry, three more storeys were constructed in 1853. Traders had access to all levels to transfer cotton bales from the bluff through a network of passageways, paths, and bridges known as Factor’s Walk, named after the individuals who graded the cotton. Antique and replica furnishings that evoke Savannah’s historic refinement in its antebellum heyday can be found in the Atrium.
