Whether you’re planning a public performance or a private event, the historic Theatre blends rich San Francisco architecture with modern amenities.

Once a movie theatre for members of the US Army and their families, the historic Presidio Theatre in San Francisco’s Presidio National Park is now reborn as a home for dance, theatre, music, cinema and performing arts of all kinds. Built in 1939 by the U.S. Army with WPA funding, the Presidio Theatre sits just around the corner from the parade grounds at the Main Post. The original Spanish Colonial style architecture, with its wide arches and flat stucco surfaces, was meticulously maintained during the building’s recent renovation. The interior is simple Deco style. The Presidio Theatre served as an entertainment hub for the military and their families for nearly six decades, screening movies and hosting live events or radio broadcasts.

FRESH AIR news… the Presidio Theatre air handler was set up in Dec 2021 to circulate fresh air from the surrounding national park into the system nightly from midnight to 2am. And, individual HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) air purifiers have been added to high use areas to boost protection. I know this makes us feel healthier and safer to return.

Front of House
Main level includes a 600-seat auditorium, lobby, lounge with concessions bar, coat check, and box office. Lower level includes a second lobby with concessions bar and restrooms. All ADA accessible.

Back of House
Backstage includes a catering kitchen, green room, dressing room, and in-progress loading dock. Lower level includes rehearsal studio/meeting room, two group dressing rooms, star dressing room, and more. Both levels accessible via freight elevator.

Plaza and Outdoors
Outdoor plaza has a standing capacity of 300 and in-ground tent supports to accommodate multiple configurations, with direct access to the auditorium, main-level lobby and backstage area.
