Happy Hour: Okanagan Apple Bourbon

Culinary Capers, the catering arm of Waterview in British Columbia, recently launched Culinary Cocktails, featuring 20 recipes made in-house using local ingredients and housemade bitters. The Okanagan Apple Bourbon recipe, in particular, offers a warm rich flavor perfect for winter and holiday entertaining.

½ cup fresh squeezed apple juice
1 cinnamon stick
1 tsp. fresh squeezed lemon juice
½ vanilla bean
1 ½ oz. bourbon
dried apple slices (for garnish)

To prepare:
1. Combine the apple juice, cinnamon stick and vanilla bean in a small saucepan.
2. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium-high heat and reduce by half to ¼ cup.
3. Remove from heat, strain and cool.
4. Combine cooled apple juice mixture, lemon juice and bourbon in a shaker with ice. Shake until well mixed.
5. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with a dried apple slice.
