Happy Hour: The Dexter

By Courtesy of the University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, IN)

In 1902, Notre Dame student Ernest M. Morris could not afford tuition. With his dreams of a diploma slipping away, Morris asked the school president, Father John W. Cavanaugh, for two favors: to let him continue enrollment on credit, and to take care of his horse Dexter, which he used as transportation to the campus and boarded while in class. Father Cavanaugh graciously agreed. Morris graduated and went on to found his own investment firm. He donated $1 million to aid the university in its post-war expansion; Morris Inn was constructed in his honor. That’s why the Morris Inn is proud to offer this signature cocktail, the Dexter.
