McNamara Event Staff Begins 2016 by Giving Back

Minneapolis, MN - One of the employee benefits of working at the McNamara Alumni Center is that you are allowed - and, in fact, encouraged - to take one day to volunteer. This is part of the generous volunteer policy of McNamara's parent company, Cushman & Wakefield/NorthMarq. This got the 7-member McNamara Alumni Center event staff thinking.

As a premier Twin Cities event venue, McNamara hosts approximately 20 fundraisers annually, benefiting Twin Cities non-profits. Why not choose one of these many worthwhile organizations to share our expertise with for a day? The benefit of a service day would be two-fold: it allows us to learn more about one of the organizations that comes through our doors and to appreciate the tremendous work they do to better our global community. A day of service is also a way of thanking our client for entrusting our team and venue with its annual event.

So, while not an easy feat, the seven-member McNamara event team voted and the chosen winner was long-time client Give Us Wings, a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming lives in Kenya and Uganda by providing greater access to healthcare, education and business resources.

On Monday, January 11, 2016 the McNamara event staff descended upon the cozy offices of Give Us Wings, located in the Community Action Partnership building in St. Paul. We were excited to share our combined strengths as event coordinators, marketers and researchers. McNamara managers participated in brainstorming sessions with the leadership of Give Us Wings regarding best practices we’ve seen with other fundraising events held at McNamara, including how to implement auction technology. Other team members made phone calls on behalf of Give Us Wings to popular Minnesota destinations asking for lodging and dining contributions for “get-away” auction packages. A two-person tag team signed, sealed and collated 120 donation request letters to previous donors.

All in all it was a highly productive morning with Give Us Wings Program Coordinator Betsy Davies commenting, “This is what it would feel like having a large staff! The McNamara team worked steadily, reaching out to businesses in local and neighboring communities. In addition, they shared with us their combined knowledge from years of experience. Three cheers for volunteers!”

Inspired by their day of service at Give Us Wings, the McNamara Alumni Center event team is energized to take on a busy Spring of events including the Give Us Wings annual gala on April 16—their 6th year with us.
