The Bently Reserve Introduces Standing Meetings

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – October 4, 2016 - The Bently Reserve, San Francisco’s premier LEED-certified meeting and special event venue, introduces Standing Meetings, helping attendees improve their health, mental alertness and team collaboration while combating the ill effects of a sedentary work life. Meeting planners who book the Cordova and Nianticrooms will find adjustable sit-stand boardroom tables that can accommodate up to 18 people. The tables offer the option to alternate between sitting and standing, and can be easily configured throughout the meeting.

As workers are increasingly spending more of their time sitting in front of the computer, health experts have been warning about the risks associated with sedentary activity. In fact, Dr. James Levine, director of the Mayo Clinic-Arizona State University Obesity Solutions Initiative and inventor of the treadmill desk, called cited “sitting as the new smoking.” Risks include obesity, cholesterol and triglyceride problems, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. Extended periods of sitting are also known to increase morbidity and mortality risks.

Simply standing more often during the day has been shown to not only combat heath risks but also brings many benefits. A recent study released by the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri showed that standing meetings increases productivity. They also noted that standing groups also had significantly decreased territorial behavior and increased sharing of information and ideas—all of this simply due to getting up and out of their chairs. Additionally, it has also been shown that stand up meetings can reduce meeting time by 34%.

Both the 322-square feet Cordova and the 388-Suare feet Niantic boardrooms are fully furnished, appointed with artwork from San Francisco's renowned Museum of Modern Art, and boast expansive windows overlooking the Financial District. Room amenities include built-in projectors, high-definition audio, iPad integration, cutting-edge teleconferencing technology, free wifi, in-house AV, and catering options.
