Professional Tips for Planning Government Events

If you’ve ever planned government meetings or per diem location events, then you know it can be tricky finding the right amenities for the right price. Here are a few practical tips and budget management strategies to help you create an amazing event at an affordable price.

Many government agencies offer meeting facilities, from classrooms to boardrooms, which can be a cost-effective option for day-long seminars or workshops. If you need an off-site space for a party or banquet, local community centers, neighborhood associations, and even some restaurants often have recreational rooms that can be rented for a reasonable price.

Before you book A/V services, consult with your organization’s technology department. Many agencies will allow employees to borrow or “check out” equipment for official functions like government meetings, saving you rental fees on site.

Venues for Government EventsIf your government meetings or per diem events will require food service, choose a facility with a kitchen or prep area where you can prepare or set up your own food. If possible, stop by the local membership warehouse for pastries, snacks, and prepared food trays. If you decide to have your government meetings catered, contact local restaurants to see if you can pick up prepared food and serve it as a buffet -- you’ll save a bundle in the process.

President Lincoln's Cottage

President Lincoln's Cottage is proud to offer government groups discounts on our site rental packages. Western Illinois University

Host your Government Event at Western Illinois University! We offer 40 meeting rooms with an opportunity to open up theatre style classrooms for up to 1000 participants. Nichols College

In the historical and scenic town of Dudley Massachusetts, Nichols College is the ideal location for, but not limited to: Conferences, seminars, camps/workshops, and retreats. This centrally located New England venue is easily accessible to five major cities. Sitting on 200 acres of land, Nichols College represents its rural background while providing an abundance of on-site and local area attractions. At Nichols, we provide exceptional on-site event coordinating services and pay great attention to detail, so you don’t have to.

We offer a large variety of campus facilities and breakout space to suit all needs. Our lodging accommodations include seven residence halls, ranging from a tradition college dorm style to suite/apartment style lodging. Our largest lodging accommodations can hold up to 366 occupants. We also offer smaller accommodations for a more intimate and connective effect. Facilities include class rooms in a variety of our buildings, which can be used for recreational or breakout space. Each classroom is well equipped with audio and visual lectern. This includes a PC, DVD/VHS player, LCD overhead projectors, and the ability to connect various devices such as a laptop. Along with lodging and traditional classroom breakout space, we also offer an auditorium for theater, banquets, or general conference meetings. We also have a newly renovated Recreation and Athletic Center equipped with a field house, gym, rock wall, aerobics room, racquetball courts, and weight and cardio workout space. The Athletic Center also occupies baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, a football/field hockey/lacrosse field, and a soccer field. Our facilities provide an extensive variety of uses, above satisfactory for any needs.

Catering is also provided at Nichols College during your stay. Guests have the ability to eat in our campus dining hall, with food service provided by Sodexo. The catering staff will work with your group to make any event memorable. From simple to elegant, our catering manager will ensure that you can rest easy and enjoy your event.
