Finding the perfect match for a wedding venue is easy when you look outside the box. Non-traditional venues are not only as beautiful as traditional spaces, but they also better cater to a couple’s specific interests and needs, making their wedding day one they’ll always remember.
In fact, the planning website SpecialEvents.com, citing a survey on The Knot, states that “formal weddings have decreased by 16 percent because couples booked non-traditional venues such as barns, historic homes, and wineries instead.” The story points to varied reasons for the trend, such as intimacy, longer use of the venue, more picturesque spots, affordability, and creativity.
Some of our favorite spots for wedded bliss include Tudor Place Historic House, a scenic country estate in the heart of Washington, D.C.’s famous Georgetown neighborhood. This intimate venue, for up to 300 people, features several outdoor gardens, spanning five-and-a-half acres, as well as access to the Dower House, built in 1867 in the Victorian Gothic style.
In New York City, just steps away from Rockefeller Center, 3 West Club offers the glamour of a lavish metropolitan wedding at wonderful rates. One of the most memorable spots is the Solarium on the ninth floor of the building, with a terrace that overlooks St. Pat’s Cathedral. The Grand Ballroom on the second floor is the largest space offering nearly 1,800 square feet for guests to mingle and dance. The venue offers special wedding catering and cocktail packages and also has a 25-room hotel for overnight accommodations for out-of-town guests.
