With just 10 minutes left in the third period yesterday, my husband and I had to get into the car to pick up our sons and head to church. Bad timing! My husband was driving and I was on his iPhone getting updates as fast as I could. He kept mumbling to himself that he could not believe that we were missing the end of the game. He felt very Un-American and so did I. And then we learned that Team USA had tied the game with just 24 seconds left. Now what?!#
We picked up our guys and started brainstorming for the nearest place we could find with a TV. We parked illegally and ran into a grill that was absolutely packed with people, standing room only. I watched the window to see if we were going to get a ticket while my husband watched his watch! What about church? What about the game? With a 20 minute OT, I was certain we’d miss church, so I made a deal with the family. There was just no way we could miss the end of this game, especially if we won.
Well, we didn’t win and we didn’t miss church. We were late, as were about 100 other people. But ironically, the people sitting behind us were on time. They let out a shrill when they found out who won. I was surprised that they didn’t know who had won, but even more surprised when they told us where they visiting from…Canada!
