Peppermill Resort Spa Greener Than Ever Before
Environmental responsibility and sustainability are more than just popular lingo at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino, Reno. Nestled at the base of the Sierras in an outdoor adventure paradise and less than an hour from pristine Lake Tahoe, the Peppermill recognizes its critical role in minimizing the impact of operations on the environment while maintaining a premier level of service and experience for each of our guests. Part of that process is taking the initiative to carefully rethink existing processes and creating new systems to recycle, reduce, or eliminate emissions and waste and conserve energy and water.
As the demand to conserve increases, the Peppermill continues to investigate new and innovative ways to save precious resources, especially in regards to water conservation and energy. In this movement towards sustainability, the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino has revised multiple operations to reduce external impact and combine the use of existing resources and cutting-edge technology to maximize efficiency, cut costs, and seek out greener products and services.
These ongoing steps have included the following programs:
- A complete overhaul of existing geothermal system including new wells on property to supply all water and heating property wide
- LED and fluorescent retrofit lighting throughout entire property
- Installation of a water recycling system for all laundry services conserving millions of gallons of water each year
- A building management system to control and regulate room and water temperatures based on usage as opposed to constantly heating water and running systems throughout the day A hydronic system (Water) to heat or cool the facility by using a closed loop system. The cold water is cooled by a pre-chill system utilizing outdoor temperatures instead of chillers; the hot water is heated by geothermal
- Water conservation awareness through room placards encouraging reuse of towels and water conservation and changing guest bed linens & towels per stay on a request only basis Creation of a virtually paperless HR department through the implementation of new software systems and transferring all forms and documents into digital applications Shredding and recycling paper receptacles in all administrative offices including onsite print shop and advertising departments
- Use of reusable serving utensils, eating utensils, napkins and tablecloths in all restaurants
