RED SOX GAMES ON THE BIG SCREEN
Showcase Cinemas To Present Games in Selected Theatres in High-Definition

BOSTON - June 4, 2004 - The Boston Red Sox, along with New England Sports Network, Showcase Cinemas, and cable TV partners throughout New England today announced plans to show a limited number of Red Sox games at Showcase Cinemas in four New England cities, giving fans a new and exciting way to watch their favorite team make their pennant drive this summer.

Tickets for the games, which are just $5, are available through the Red Sox website at www.redsox.com, at the participating Showcase Cinemas' box offices, and by calling the theatres. A portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit The Red Sox Foundation, the team's charitable organization that benefits many worthy causes.

The first of its kind live broadcasts will be presented in digitally projected widescreen high-definition with Dolby stereo sound and stadium-style seating at theatres in Randolph, Worcester and West Springfield, Mass., and in Providence, RI, beginning Tuesday, June 8, and continuing with selected home games through June, July, and August. Cable partners Comcast, Cox Communications, and Charter Communications are delivering NESN's high definition production to the respective theatres.

The -live in-theatre showings of Major League Baseball games in high definition are believed to be the first of their kind. Last year, Showcase Cinemas presented one game at its theatre in Randolph, MA, to a sold out audience that cheered the Red Sox to a victory over the New York Yankees. The Red Sox received more than 25,000 ticket requests for the 400 available seats.

"Our fans can't always get to Fenway Park but they can now enjoy a night out with their friends to see the games in comfortable seating and the larger than life perspective of high definition broadcasts," said Mike Dee, Chief Operating Officer of the Red Sox.

In order to provide the broadcasts in widescreen high-definition, Showcase Cinemas provided substantial digital projection technology installations at the four theatres.

"We are committed to offering unique experiences in our theatres," stated Shari E. Redstone, president, National Amusements, Inc. "By partnering with the Red Sox, NESN and the cable companies we are able to bring a terrific evening to our patrons that is as close to being at the ballpark as you can get."

Several theatres will also feature an expanded array of food service options with prominent brands such as Nathan's Famous and Sbarro Pizza. A limited alcoholic beverage service will be conducted at certain theatres on specific dates. All theatres will provide food service within the auditoriums showing the games

"NESN is proud to partner with our video partners and Showcase Cinemas to present in-theater HD telecasts of select Red Sox games," said Sean McGrail, NESN President. "Fans who have not yet experienced the Red Sox in HD will now have the opportunity to view it first hand, and at the same time support the charitable work of the Red Sox Foundation."

High-definition television, or HDTV, combines high-resolution digital television (DTV) with digital sound creating a stunning image with stunning sound. HDTV makes use of 720 or 1080 distinct lines of resolution compared to 525 for television. Viewers who have watched a game on HDTV say it is more like watching a movie than a television program.

The in-theatre showings of Red Sox games begin June 8th when the team takes on the San Diego Padres at 7:05 pm.
