Finlay ParkOne of the best known parks in the state of South Carolina, Finlay has hosted just about everything from festivals and political rallies to road races and Easter Sunrise services. The park is situated between the streets of Assembly, Taylor, Gadsden and Laurel and remains one of the treasures of Columbia . South Carolina Confederate Relic Room & Military MuseumThe South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum was organized in December of 1895 by the Wade Hampton Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, to memorialize the service of South Carolinians who fought in defense of South Carolina during the War Between the States. The museum exhibits military and cultural artifacts from South Carolina's historical eras, from the Revolutionary War through Desert Storm, with an emphasis on South Carolina's Confederate Era. The Museum housed in the World War Memorial Building which was built in 1935 as a tribute to all South Carolinians who fought in World War One. http://www.crr.sc.gov/
Hampton-Preston Mansion & GardensThe Hampton-Preston Mansion epitomizes the lives of the planter elite in antebellum South Carolina. Both the Hamptons and the Prestons moved in the highest social and political circles of Columbia society. Their wealth came from cotton plantations in Columbia and sugar cane plantations in Louisiana, on which hundreds of slaves labored. The mansion's collection represents fifty years of occupancy.
