Testimonials

  • Carter Hall is an absolutely beautiful venue for a retreat. The facilities and grounds are truly exceptional. The staff was wonderful to work with. Any concerns that we had about not being able to afford Carter Hall were addressed and we able to hold an affordable retreat that was nonetheless very upscale and private. We cannot wait to go back!
    Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys

  • "My group had a fabulous time at Carter Hall.  Everyone raved about the food and spent most of their down time relaxing and socializing on the back porch.  Thank you for all the hard work that went into making this meeting run so smoothly."

Chris Heishman with The Nature Conservancy

  • "Thank you both for all you did to make [our event] so special! Your warmth and gracious welcoming of each participant, your bend-over-backwards support...and your facinating historical account of Carter Hall...helped me give all I had to our [guests]."

Liz Post, The Come Into the Garden Retreat, May 2011

  • Carter Hall is a unique venue, charming and intimate, for any meeting or conference. Participants in my events at Carter Hall never fail to praise the beauty of the house and grounds, or to rave about the incredible quality (and quantity!) of the meals and refreshments. As an event planner, however, what keeps me coming back to Carter Hall again and again is the dedication, warmth and professionalism of its staff. Even a near-blizzard in the middle of one of our weekend-long conferences didn't faze them!

Rachel Casebolt, Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership

  • "Each year for nearly 10 years, my colleagues from across the country and I have convened at Carter Hall for an annual retreat. Before we found Carter Hall we tried out at least three other sites in our quest for a location that would have great food, comfortable sleeping arrangements, and the right balance of meeting space and "fun" space - all on a non-profit budget. Cheryl's warm hospitality and top-notch chef and staff paired with the unique "home-like" accommodations at Carter Hall have turned our work function into a highly anticipated work-family reunion. Carter Hall is our dream-come-true for a retreat site, and we hope to come back for many more years."
