About

Looking for an attractive and affordable option near the New York Metropolitan Area?  Fairleigh Dickinson University is the perfect choice for your next meeting, conference, youth camp, competition, workshop, retreat, or special event.  Using the specific requirements for your event, we will host you on one of our two campus locations:

  • The Florham Campus in Madison, New Jersey is located on the 266-acre Vanderbilt estate. This residential campus is centrally located on several major highways including I-287 and I-78 and is adjacent to NJ Transit, which offers direct service to midtown Manhattan. The historic Hennessy Hall is the center of the beautiful, Olmstead-designed landscape. The elegant scenery will make your meetings, lectures, and corporate and private parties extra special.
  • The beautifully landscaped Metropolitan Campus is located in Teaneck, New Jersey, minutes from the George Washington Bridge. Just off of Rt. 4, the campus is surrounded by shopping and many unique restaurants. Running through the heart of the campus is the Hackensack River with a beautifully designed footbridge. The beautifully redesigned University Walk offers a picturesque spot for your outdoor, riverside events. From lectures in Wilson Auditorium to outdoor events on Commencement Green, the Metropolitan campus has something to offer every event.

Unique facilities are available for use on each campus: performance theaters or auditoriums with up to 400 seats; classrooms of every size, most with widescreen projection television; attractive lobbies, lounges, and living rooms with comfortable incidental seating for parties and conference breaks; meeting rooms that open directly onto three-season patios; paved walkways overlooking stunning fountains at the Florham campus and with scenic views of the Hackensack River at the Metropolitan Campus; and ample parking for all your guests.

Florham Campus - Hennessy Hall
Hennessy Hall is the centerpiece of the campus. This 100-room, Georgian-style masterpiece was designed in the 1890s by Stanford White, and replicates a wing in Henry VIII’s Hampton Court. Most of its interior decorations (such as staircases and fireplaces) are in Italian marble, worked by Italian craftsmen. Hennessy Hall also holds the chestnut-panelled Hartman Lounge (the former billiard room) and Lenfell Hall, then a ballroom and drawing room, which is now used for meetings and special events. Today, Hennessy Hall contains classrooms, administrative offices, Snax Cafe, and the student mailroom. Visitors to campus also won’t want to miss the Italian and Clowney Gardens located along the sides and back of the mansion.
Florham Campus - Zen Building
The Stadler-Zenner-Hoffmann-La Roche Academic Building (commonly known as the “Zen Building”) features 20 state-of-the-art classrooms wired for computers and offering interactive television capabilities; a newly redesigned graphic design lab with Mac desktops; seminar and conference rooms; and “Leafs and Grains,” a lounge and snack bar.
Florham Campus - Dreyfuss Building
The Dreyfuss Building houses classrooms and computer facilities, as well as the Dreyfuss Theater, used for peforming arts programs and special lectures. Computer facilities in Dreyfuss include four general-purpose computer labs, as well as a visualization lab with state-of-the-art editing and imaging equipment, and a specialized lab for digital graphics.
Florham Campus - Monninger Center
The John and Joan Monninger Center for Learning and Research is situated as the center of academic life for the campus, between the residence halls and the academic resources of the Florham Campus. It is also just adjacent to the Student Center. The Monninger Center offers learning spaces that range from small group study rooms to a 100-seat auditorium. It also features a full library, complete with multiple computer labs. All of its spaces are equipped for wireless computing and for appropriate display technologies. The center makes extensive use of natural light, has high efficiency heating and air-conditioning units and uses recyclable materials wherever possible. It includes the sunny Orangerie, which originally provided the Florham estate with fresh citrus fruit through much of the year.
Florham Campus - Student Center
Expanded by nearly 14,000 square feet in 2003, the Florham Campus Student Center is the hub for campus life. It features a glass-enclosed coffeehouse, the Bottle Hill Pub, flexible, multi-purpose meeting spaces for a variety of meetings and events, and the bookstore on the first floor. The main campus dining hall and “The Grill,” another campus eatery, are located on the second floor.
Florham Campus - The Barn
The Barn houses the University’s Black Box theater, a unique setting for a small retreat or workshop, fine arts classes and camps, a small banquet or reception, or other intimate gathering.
Metro Campus - Dickinson Hall
Dickinson Hall features several classrooms and auditoriums available for use by conference groups for smaller keynotes, breakout spaces, and educational trainings and workshop. Wilson Auditorium, the largest auditorium, is locate in the southeast corner of the building, nearest the Rothman Center, and has its own entrance to the building.
Metro Campus - Bogota Savings Bank Center
With its distinctive tent-like roof and its riverside setting, the Bogota Savings Bank Center is perhaps FDU’s best-known building to the wider Bergen County community. The Bogota Savings Bank Center is on the Hackensack side of the campus, and is the primary athletic and recreational facility for the Metropolitan Campus. The building consists of three key areas of operation and function:

  • Four playing courts which can be configured for any combination of basketball, tennis or volleyball games. The two central courts are wood. The non-wood floor area of the main arena is surfaced with synthetic material which provides a quality playing surface for a variety of physical activity.
  • A six-lane, 200-meter track encircling the main arena playing courts and a long jump pit.
  • The Stratis Lounge overlooking the main arena from the mezzanine level, featuring a reception area and seating for up to 150.
Metro Campus - Student Union
The Student Union, recently renamed in honor of FDU alumnus Greg Olsen, features several flexible meeting spaces including the Multipurpose Room, the Rutherford Room, the Conference Room, the Kron Lounge, and the Metro Lounge, and is the primary Dining Hall for the Metropolitan Campus. Also found in the Student Union is the Knight Club, a recreational facility that houses board games, pool tables, a ping-pong table, seating areas and a large-screen projection DVD/VCR system with cable television. The club is a great location to host to a wide variety of programs including live music, interactive entertainment, films and movies, speakers and much more.
Metro Campus - Alumni Hall and Riverside Cafe
The Riverside Cafe in Alumni Hall offers guests a casual dining environment right on the banks of the Hackensack River and can be used for events outside of normal operating hours. The second floor of Alumni Hall features a wrap-around terrace with picturesque views and is perfect for receptions.
Metro Campus - Hackensack Footbridge
FDU is a builder of bridges in many ways, and when we say we’re connected, we really mean it. The Metropolitan Campus counts not only Teaneck but also Hackensack as its home, thanks to a footbridge that joins the two parts of campus across the scenic Hackensack River. (See an article about kayaking the Hackensack River.) Hackensack’s urban benefits and Teaneck’s small-town atmosphere offer visitors the best of both worlds.
