Concordia University of Texas Celebrates Groundbreaking on New Facility
AUSTIN, Texas -- On Friday, October 23, 2009, Concordia University Texas will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking to celebrate the start of major construction on the new baseball field. The new field is planned to be completed by the first home baseball game on Feb. 5, 2010, in the Tornado’s upcoming season.
The ceremonial groundbreaking will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 23.
CTX Athletics Director Dan Huntley and Head Baseball Coach Tommy Boggs will both be on hand on Oct. 23 to discuss the baseball program and the field with the media.
The University received a $1.5 million donation (the largest ever bestowed upon the university to date) in May, which will go toward the new baseball field. In addition, Concordia received a $300,000 gift from former Concordia baseball player Scott Linebrink, who is currently a pitcher with the Chicago White Sox organization. With these donations, Concordia has in hand more than 50 percent of the total funds needed for the design and construction of the University’s baseball complex, which will include a playing field, lights, covered grandstands and concession areas.
